And on that same sort of registering topic...one of the dolls in my sig isn't mine, it's my boyfriends. He just wants to show her off...so what people have in thier sigs isn't always accurate.

The BW Lishe is also from France and of course, not for sale.

well, just a suggestion :p, because not every police care about a doll getting stolen, and since this is an expensive hobby and most transacts overseas. maybe be careful with posting pictures? i dont know. well maybe a lot of people are very private and personal about their collection, but i didnt think of that, just how to ensure safety among doll owners and forum and stuff
i'm just giving ideas, and if you feel their bad ideas, okay then.^^
getting conned and scammed from different country is harder, sometimes impossible to track a person. my 2 piece.

There is no problem. As I said, it would have been a good idea if only databases were complete. Sadly they are not and sometimes I discover a bunch of dolls by chance, like "woah so many unexpected".

I have watched this develop from the very beginning and I will just put in my two cents, since people are throwing ideas back and forth.

First of all, a lot of people are talking about having data-bases and what-not in order to keep up with who has what dolls. In fact, most people who attempt to scam by using another person's pictures get caught very quickly. I have seen dozens of threads started on DoA that have to do with auctions and what-not. People are very good about helping each other out. When someone sees someone has stollen pictures of someone else's doll they make it known to that person. Word gets around this hobby pretty quick. What made this scam so different is the person INTENTIONALLY preyed on unsuspecting people using PRIVATE methods only. They made sure to only post stollen pictures to people in private that would have no way of knowing that they were stollen. If any of these sales had been made public people would have noticed that something was fishy.

This scam was orchestrated with the utmost care to keep people from suspecting anything. Each person was a person chosen that wouldn't know the particular doll. Each person was chosen to be from a different country. There were a handful of people selected to be dooped into buying something they would have NO way of knowing wasn't legitimate.

The person who did this, not only had a very good knowledge of dolls, but of the legal system between countries, what individuals would and would not recognize certain dolls, and how to keep things private enough that it would take weeks for someone to begin to wonder what was going on.

I quickly went through and counted on my fingers that this person stole a few thousand dollars over a couple of weeks and other people are coming forward that they received PMs with fake dolls as well, but hadn't entered into contracts yet. There may still be more people here who just haven't come forward yet.

This was clever, it was well thought out, and executed with care.

How could someone have safe-guarded themselves against this scam? Asking for pictures of the doll infront of a current newspaper is always a good idea. The 'my camera is broken' excuse is a BIG red flag. I suggest always being willing to wait a few days for someone to find a way to take pictures. If they still refuse, well...Then be very cautious. Excuses that come from a family member are also a big red flag.

Since this has happened, and it is obvious that people who prey upon BJD lovers are getting more clever and malicious, seeking more information about the person that is selling to you, I think is completely fine. I realize some people do not want to give out personal information, but sharing small amounts of information, taking extra pictures, posting openly, these are things that are not THAT intrusive. There's nothing wrong with being diligent or asking for a little extra from sellers. I would always be willing to take more pictures, give more information about myself, or things like this, in order to make a buyer feel comfortable with me.

This was a terrible and malicious act. I have difficulty believing the story of the sick mother. It was just too well thought out.

I truly hope that everyone in this situation can find a good resolution.

The FBI will send the info to French Authorities. They deal with both domestic and international complaints.

Here's the information about what the IC3 deals with.

They are the "someone" who can help you with this. (and you won't need to speak French to do it!)
I second this. Apparently the average case size for 'scams', non-receipt of items etc is $400. This case definitely exceeds this amount. On average the FBI attends to 21,000 such internet crime cases including fraud per month.

no, and i undertstand that you would want to believe in your friend. HOWEVER, I have a best friend too. and although i would want to believe him, should something like this ever arise, you can bet i'd kick his friggin butt if i ever realized that he actually DID do something so stupid. Being a friend does not mean you BLIND yourself to someone's wicked ways. If they are a wrong-doer, then they are a wrong-doer. That's just cut and dry. And people who will steal like this, on such a grand level, will steal from ANYONE, even their own mothers.

    You are right.
If I know a friend that did this to someone or a few people at that, I would kick his butt also and make him give the money back. Thats wrong what she did.

All I want right now is all my money in full.
By Celyne22 taking long to do right and have you guys her friends knowing about whats going on, she should of been on here by now trying to help us get our money back. But all I keep hearing is that she is so sorry she wants to help or something else, but I'm not buyin it, this is bull.
Today is the start of a new week and still no Celyne22.
I'm sure she can make another user name and get back on here to say something.

    Still waiting..

I'm sorry to butt in in the middle of this situation, but I feel I have to say that those of you who have gotten scammed: if you haven't done so already, initiate some form of legal action. Stop waiting for celyne to show up, and stop trying to depend on the mods to resolve this entirely. A lot of you were scammed out of hundreds of dollars - that's not chump change, and if you want it back, it's YOUR responsibility to try and get it back, not anyone else's

She's given excuses several times, changed her story several times, and she has yet to make any contact with anyone who was duped. It's obvious she's not going to make any effort to come to you, so the best thing to do right now is to find a way to get to her. Filing a report with the IC3 and get in touch with French members so you can look into legal action in France. At this point, I doubt just waiting will get you anywhere.

Well, I was the first to come out and say something because I feel like I was scammed out the most cash and I did everything I can to get my money back from Paypal from calling them to going down to my bank and filling out all the paper work for this matter and I did it at the bank.
Help from the MOD's will be great and any help from her friends will help this matter also.

Well, since you know her let her know we want our money back.
She don't need to come on the forum if she don't want to, but give us a refund in full.

Thats all we want right now.

    Thats it..

yes i want my money back too;(( any nev news from 'her'???

  16. #196
Nope. Most of those who met her 'in real' (including myself) don't have much contact info. We have news from the same people who give you news. But we don't let go. You've lost a lot of money and we have lost a lot of confidence, and that's not an easy thing to forgive either.

This bears repeating. If you don't do more than going to the bank and alerting Paypal, chances are Celyne will get away with your money. The banks have hundreds of people to deal with every day, and they won't put your situation as priority unless there is legal involvement and possible legal repercussions. Anyone who really, genuinely wants their money back should contact local law enforcement to see what can be done, and then act upon it.

There was another case here with a member who stole thousands of dollars, gave excuses, and then claimed she was sending refunds - most of the people she stole from never received their refund, and the user got away with stealing cash from several honest DoA users. You really can't give Celyne the benefit of the doubt, and, if you want your money back, you need to do more than fill out paperwork with the bank and talk to Paypal. Having the cops go knock on her door is a surefire way to at least make her realize how bad of a situation this is.

Good luck, everyone. I wish I could help more. I just hope someone takes the initiative soon to call Celyne on internet fraud/theft, and that this situation doesn't settle back down to the bottom of the page with everyone being out hundreds of dollars through no fault of their own.

Also, the mods can't really do anything for you as far as legalities - they've done all they can. It's up to you guys now.

I went to my local law enforcement and they can't really do anything because it happen over the net. The bank has there law enforcement lookin in to it because most of my money came from my bank.
I'm from the US and this Celyne is from France. Thats why we ask if her friends can help by posting this in there forum and and telling the Police on her side.

    I'm sorry to butt in as well, but I've also been reading this thread from the start. ^^;;

Dragondavy1 and all the rest of you who have been scammed, this is why you HAVE to contact http://www.ic3.gov/ as recommended by many many people up thread. This government agency was specifically set up to HANDLE INTERNET CLAIMS Your local police are not.

The mods on DoA are really great people, I'm friends with some of them in RL, but they're not super heroes, and legally they can only get so involved in any dispute they are not directly involved with. They can BAN someone like Celyne, they can offer sympathy and advice, they can make threads to try and help all those scammed find out about the problem, but they are just ordinary people, many of whom also have full time jobs they work as well as modding the board. You can not just sit and wait for the mods to make all the correct contacts for you, because they can't. You have to file a complaint with http://www.ic3.gov/. If you paid my credit card, you need to contact your credit card company.

And on the debate of databases and such...
    None of my dolls I own are in databases I think. ^^; I'm sort of lazy about them, though when people are buying from me I do my best to answer their questions, get their items out promptly, and take any pictures I can for them. ^^;

Hi... I've not read everything, and I don't speak a perfect english, sadly...

I'm a friend of Celyne22, who has a lot of problems this times...

I'm here just to help her to get all the email adress of the damaged people. Actually, she's selling her own dolls to give you your money back...
I'm sorry for what happened, it's so ugly...
So please, I know she want to repair what was done, I just ask an email in PM, so that she'll be able to contact you (she told me she can't here, and even if she could, she'll be unnable to tell the things because of her really poor english...)

I can explain (with pain lol) for her to the concern people in PM, i'm not here to tell the private life of my friend to everybody (i hope you'll understand).

    Thanks
