Thread: Sold/In-Transit Lists No Longer Allowed! Also - remember no "market value" threads!

With the screenshot thing...I know that with my computer, it doesn't just create an image for me when I use alt + printscreen (or in my case, fn + printscreen, since I'm on a laptop). Instead, it copies whatever is displayed on my screen to the computer's clipboard. I then have to open up a photo editing program and paste the clipboard into a blank image that is the same size as my computer's screen resolution. Try doing that if you're having trouble getting a screenshot to work.

And if you happen to be using Windows 7 -- it comes with a tool called "snip" which will create a screen shot of any or all of your screen. Handy little doo-dad, it is.

Alt+PrtScn captures only the single application (window) that you're currently in. For example, if you have a browser and a small IM window open, & your mouse is currently active in the IM, that's all PrtScn will capture. If you use the PrtScn by itself, it will capture the whole screen, with everything that's visible on it.

But, yes, after you capture it, you still have to paste it into a graphics program. MS Paint works, Paint.Net works, PhotoShop also works... anything that'll accept a paste-in from your Clipboard.

If you don't have Win7 with its marvelous Snipping Tool, and you still can't get PrtScn to work = Snagit is a very nice screencapping program.

I think only Macs auto save the screenshot to the desktop (which is something like Command (squiggly box)-shift-4 and draw a box). Most PC's auto function is to save to the clipboard in which you have to paste it into an image program (and paint works fine in this case).
Being pessimistic, I like the idea of removing keyword spam, but if there was a debate over description/actual between a seller and buyer then either saving the HTML or the screen shot image are both in the end are arguably manipulable. I'm guessing in the end we're only really going to worry about the doll threads and hence why they have a graveyard. Just a possibility, but I'm going to opt for lowering the keyword spam.

I'd suggest/hope people who started their thread with, eg "many wigs for sale", might change it to a better description as they sell off some or have a "featured item" in their title. It might make it easier to find their thread again. I don't shop a lot on the marketplace, but I do hate seeing something neat and then not being able to find the thread again 20 minutes later. I remember titles better than in-post descriptions.

"Please remember that asking other members for their opinions on the current market value of dolls/doll parts/items/accessories is not permitted."

You make it sound as if only sellers would be asking. Doesn't this also make it difficult for people who are looking to BUY, especially newcomers to the hobby who might not know where to look? Or is there a forum place for that? It's been a while since I've been on DOA.

I'm not certain I understand your question - but any discussion regarding business outside of the marketplaces - buying/selling/trading - is against the rules. It is not allowable to ask about possible sales. Members must have Marketplace access and can then use the Marketplaces to find items or to list a WTB thread. Hope that helps answer!

You might also try doing a basic search of the Marketplace Graveyard to see the prices of recently-sold items. We keep items in the Graveyard for six months, so chances are it's a good way to price-check a doll or part.

I am happy to help you, but please use the Ask the Mods subforum!

Yes, the Graveyard is a treasure of a resource to gauge what's selling and what's not and/or how the prices are ranging. Aside from the occasional "Oh no! A _____ was for sale and I missed it!" moment.

Of course, that doesn't include the threads that were purged of all text and pictures prior to putting the Finished tag on--

Which is against the rules of the Dolls Marketplace, so should not be happening. If you do see any threads like this in the active Marketplace, please report them
