Thanks for all the sweet comments on Grannybelles impending big ol' mesquite root house. Now I need to decide how to decorate it (which will be a long on-going process I'm sure!) Of course, the first thing that came to mind initially was to do it all traditional woodland fairyrealm in scale like other houses of this type I've seen. And someone suggested desert southwest style seeing as how it's a chunk of mesquite and I live in Tucson. But the more I think about it...I'm just not sure either of those is truly me, nor is keeping to a perfect 1/12 scale like I initially intended. Each of the larger dolls in my collection have their own elaborate display areas...sort of an exotic or exuberant randomness that reads like visual poetry to suit their individual characters. I absolutely love repurposing odd things and mixing scales so long as it works visually. And then too, things need to be easily dusted here in the deserts of Arizona...that's always a consideration as well. So lots of delicate moss, lichen, and tiny twigs everywhere could quickly become an issue. I think I'm starting to lean more towards Grannybelle's fairyhouse becoming far more "fairy ecclectic" than "woodland realistic".

Lil Spark, your little one in a birdhouse is just way too cute! I love it!

JenKat, what a wonderful, unique and artistic way to carry on your father's legacy! Please keep us posted on what you do once you get started. It would be enjoyable for us all to see.

    JenKat & PoeticSoul:
Thanks a lot! When I found it in a store I just had to buy it because it has the perfect size and is all white just like her. And it is made of metal which is perfect for her magnetic feet. It needs a little more decoration me thinks but so far she feels pretty comfortable in there

It doesn't look really odd at all! But it is out-of scale. Pukifees technically belong in 1:6 scale, because they are supposed to be quite young, but a lot of the time the scales are pretty close anyway. (Like with re-ment). I use a mix of mostly 1:12 and some 1:6 and I think it looks good.

I came here to show off a diorama I made last night. I made it as practice since I want to demolish my old diorama and re-do it. I'm still so bad at glueing the walls, though.

great room for a little girl delibagel

poeticsoul i can empathize with your dilemma. sometimes it is hard to separate out the styles i love to look at and admire and the ones i really want to live with!

we live in semi desert here too so if you need to dust a lot sometimes it is easier to glue down as much as possible anything that doesn't HAVE to move and then either blow air through to clean or vacuum with a stocking over the nozzle. either way it is something to keep in mind when building as i often ignore to my regret

DeliBagel, that room is adorable! I especially love the fairytale castle mural on the walls. What little girl wouldn't want to live there?

Ain't it the truth! I just love all those wonderful woodland fairyhouses with their perfectly scaled twig furniture, moss everwhere, and delicate bits of lichen so strategically placed. But it's just not my style. So I'm going with a more eclectic approach and just seeing where it takes me. Perfect example of this is yesterday I hung my little bundle of collected English lace making bobbins (the kind with a circle of glass beads on the bottom) all over the outside of Grannybelles fairyhouse. It makes me so happy to be able to display these little treasures after having them stored away in a drawer for years! And I couldn't care less that they're human sized and not 1:12 scale...I've thoroughly convinced myself that they're exactly the sort of thing that fairies would love.

Oh, and thanks so much for the vacuming tips too! I'll remember that.

that sounds cute. it's kind of like a fairy "borrowers" idea. i agree. fairies must love to repurpose human sized things too

This is my fav topic here on Doa!! I love to see all the little houses and rooms you make. I always check even if I'm not posting
And one day I'll finally have my Lundby to post here... But for now...

I just wanted to add my opinion (and a photo, which is always worth more than thousand words) of the latest nendoroid playset: "café"... something (I don't remember, it was from an Anime... Something like Wagnaria I think).

    Nendoroid playset #05 A and B by - Annetta -, on Flickr
As always, good playset for pukipuki, if you want them to look like adults.
As always, it can be taken apart after you use it so it virtually doesn't take much space.
But this version feels very "empty", and not detailed like the first ones were (I have other 2 playset of the same serie).
    It's still cute though.

There's a more detailed opinion in the flickr photo, if you're interested.

Browsing this thread inspired me again to pick up on the Breadbox House I started awhile ago.
Well really all I did was buy the breadbox and piece it together.

But I finally started working on the inside!

Its pretty small to work with, but I plan to make part of it a bedroom and part of it a bakery, divided by the room divider.
So far the interior is completely handmade.

I'm toying with a few ideas, such as drilling out a window on the bedroom side, adding wallpaper to the side walls, and adding working light fixtures with the battery and switch hiding in the twist-tie drawer.

Eevee - the breadbox idea is so cute. I love the roll down 'front door'. Such a great idea.

DeliBagel - I love your sweet room with those cute painted walls.

PoeticSoul - Your mesquite root house is to die for! I was in the pet store looking at reptile cage accessories and saw a resin mangrove root that I thought I could make into something, but your mesquite root is the best!

annetta - Thanks for posting the pic of the cafe. It's a great scale.

annetta, what a facinating and detailed room, and how perfectly scaled for Pukis. I'd never even heard of nendoroid playsets before.

Eevee, that breadbox house is just the cutest thing! What could possibly be more appropriate for a cute little mouse than living in a breadbox? What you've done so far is fabulous and what you're planning with the bakery sounds delightful. The light switch in the drawer is a brilliant idea (not to mention, how great is it that this breadbox has a drawer?!

nancyme12, thank you! I really love it and had no idea when I drug it home to my garden years ago that it would become a fairyhouse. This thread is just so inspiring...and then I thought, 'ah, I have the perfect thing!'

Ugh you guys are enablers to the worst degree...Bringing out my crafting side...I only have one tiny but she and her siblings are twisted around my finger...I might wind up re-doing my old doll house as a witchy 'realm' for my fledgling witch. Realm being full of enchanted things and magical looking items from floating tea sets to a crystal ball to a 'crash test broom room'.

I'm wanting to make a home for ny tiny, but I'm trying to find the best way to go about making the walls. I wanna use cardboard for the backing but cover it with something to give it a plain painted look that is really smooth. Any advice?

    So much cuteness!
DeliBagel, I love the mural-style wall-paper =^-^= Too cute...and the tiny little paper-chain is so sweet! Perfect little room for a Pukifee!

With the talk about scale, yes, 1:12 scale is often too small with the exception of some cakes and cookies. Cakes and cookies can come in all shapes and sizes so scale is often not too much of an issue. For example, I have some re-ment cookies which would be normally too big for my Pukifees but fit my YoSDs and MSDs perfectly ... they can still work as oversized cookies for Pukifees though!
My 1:12 scale cupcakes, donuts and cookies are, however, perfect for Pukifee scale!

Eevee, what a cute idea...a bread box for a house. It makes the perfect little home for a Bobo!

And annetta, thanks for the review there. I have a few nendoroids myself but hadn't bought any of the playsets but had been wondering at the scale and whether they might suit smaller tinies like pukipuki and lati white. Good to know.

Razzy, were you after any type of texture on your wall at all? I've just been shopping for mini wallpaper myself and there are a few places that will sell wall backing with various textures...say, a painted gyp-rock look. Just have a look on ebay for places selling dollhouse wallpaper, you might see a couple of ideas you like there too.

Does anyone have any ideas for how to make a little pond? I am just beginning the process of making a RealPuki house out of a hat box! Have lots of materials. I'd really like there to be a pond out in the garden, which will actually be the top of the hat box, got this idea from the flower pot house earlier in the thread. The surface the pond will be flat. I plan to outline the pond with little rocks and stick fake moss between the cracks. But what should the actual surface of the pond be made of? Any ideas for really shiny blue fabric or plastic or something? The grass will be some 100% wool felt I found that's a cool mixture of greens. A felt pond though doesn't seem right!

you could try using cellophane and putting layers of clear water based varnish on it (the cellophane adds depth and ripples) possibly with light blue paint underneath. or you could get pourable fake water at your craft store or even walmart. (again you might want to color the base first to make it look more realistic)

try doing a search for dollhouse or model railway ponds for more ideas. heres one tut i found doing a quick search it uses the pourable water

this one uses printed paper. it's for a mini wading pool but it would work the same (and now my kinds are demanding that i make them a wading pool just like this!

Now there's an idea, Auntbear! Both are great but I like the cellophane idea. I could probably even use plastic wrap. How's this sound: Buy a piece of heavy blue card stock. Spread a layer of Mod Podge on top. Carefully arrange a piece of plastic wrap on top, making the surface a bit uneven looking. Let dry and top with another layer of Mod Podge. Let that dry, then cut the whole thing out so it's pond shaped. Glue little rocks around the border and stick in pieces of moss. Ta da!

I think I will try that. Will let you know how it turns out! Now I just need the card stock and lots of little rocks.

Scrapbook papers come in textures that look like paint in many colors. I have found them at Michaels and Joanns in the scrapbook section. Foamboard makes a better wall for small rooms. I can usually find it at the dollar store-and it is 30 inches by 20 inches for a sheet. I hold my walls together with T-pins and ducktape.
