Question to all of the Mars owners: what eye size looks best in our boys? Massen is needing new eyes (again ) because there's a big crack on one of them that won't photograph well, but it's there and I'm pretty upset about it. Plus, the 14mm looks a bit too small because there's a gap.

Hello there guys! I know I'm most likely nooot welcome here, because I know next to nothing about BJDs (I'm more the Dollfie Dream type..) but I'm absolutely in utter love with Rexy, but I'm extremely frightened of the price. So I'd like to ask, are YIDs worth it? Are they like super good quality? I know they're very gorgeous. Do I dare invest? And how many people have and want clothing for their YIDs? (I'm a seamstress, I sell doll clothes.)Thank you in advance, I'll try to keep up.

Hell yes that they worth it!! I love my oYID boy Massen so much because of the awesome quality and size. I have made and bought clothes for my boy, but in general SD13 shirts and SD13 long-leg pants are the best bet for shopping options for the boys, but finding SD13 long-leg pants for cheap isn't easy (trust me). I would say that they are an good investment, but I would say that about any company that's a favorite of mine.

Perhaps you just need to shop around for different brands? My Mars wears round glass 14mms just fine (Ginarolo Style 400).... The ball itself is just big enough to fit in Mars-sockets with no gapping. The pupil & iris run a little big on these particular eyes, so it works out for a nice misty gaze, while still allowing a little white to show.

You could also try a different shape of eye-- oval flatbacks are particularly good for long eyesockets. Or, a low-dome silicone like Eyeco.

But Iplehouse gave Mars 16mm eyes by default, so he can get away with 16mms too, if you don't find a pair of 14s you like.

Here are Ginarolo's 14mm Steel Blue with Amber Ring. Rémy really needed that misty-eyed look, because he's a flibbertigibbety flirty bit of stuff. ^^

My Mars wears 16mms, and I love how it looks. I've never had to worry about high-domes getting in the way of posing, either--for whatever reason those eyewells can handle just about anything.



rootedinvanity, congrats!! I can't wait to see what you do with him--Mars is an incredibly versatile sculpt. I love seeing how many different ways he can be interpreted. :3

I don't know much about their stuff, but I do know for pants, look for SD13 long leg and SD13 shirts. It's your best bet.

So I've owned an old YID as my favorite for years now but never posted in the Discussion here... How do you guys feel about Hybrids?



Kevya's a modded Barron head on a modded Mirodoll body with modded Dikadoll hands.

Reid (my Mars) is on a Dollmore Adam body with Dollmore Model F high-heeled feet, and Lee (my Ryushin) is on the Spiritdoll Elegance body. Safe to say that I am all for hybrids! XD The oldYID bodies were just not my thing.

Ohh, there is somewhere herebouts a certain magnificent Tan Lion female hybrid, on I think a Bobobie tan body-- maybe she will deign to come out and flaunt herself? *poke poke*

I love all the bodies my YID dudes happened to come with, and they've all got finicky skintones to try to match-- so they just deal with their bodily hangups, same way as the rest of us do. I think their various bodies are all suited to their characters.... my super-old-style Soo Ri with the single-piece torso is one of those mad-dog skinny guys who would look ridiculous with muscles, but who has a huge chip on his shoulder about it anyway ("I said, I'm just small-boned!"); my Lion is an aloof panther-sleek type, is thus perfect on his willowy Model body; my model-body Mars is a late-adolescent going through an awkward stage, so he has more muscle than he knows what to do with, and would rather have girly little hands like Reid's ("Alors, I am such an ox!").

Hehe, nice! I've seen Reid around quite a bit, and that hybrid mix works really well for him. I'll always have a soft spot for Ryushin, too. Nice buns!

I love your boys, every one of em! You do such great work with your photoshoots, and I adore how individual they each are.

I gave Kevya that chunk Mirodoll body because that's how he's built as a character- a 5' 6" block of fast muscle, short but dangerous. I despaired of ever finding a BJD body like that when I discovered this one. (Mirodoll was Lost Angel at the time) All it took was a bit of modding and there he was. A few years later and I'm still not over my glee at having him as a doll.

I never even knew anybody was making short burly boy bodies-- the last short boys I remember were the old Elfdolls (58cm but no muscles) and the incredibly rare Dollti (58cm and built like swimmers without genitals). One of my SD13s was originally supposed to be shorter and more muscular, a gymnast body, like Mirodoll; but I never found a short body that wouldn't make him & his big Volks balloon-head look like a lollipop, so he just deals with his babyfat SD13 bod like everyone else. ^^.

Kevya looks great, I mean the smallness of Iplehouse heads really came in handy for matching with that body. The proportions look perfect. I'm charmed by how short his arms are - even with no other doll nearby for comparison, I can see just how stubby and un-willowy! How tall is he? I have seen Kevya around many times, but I don't think I've ever seen him standing.

I forgot to say thank you too! "Dominant yet romantic" with intense color; mmm, there are endless possibilities there! Gumdrops, Masterpiece, Soom, Enchanted Doll, Ginarolo... I could spend days just eyeball-shopping, even if I never buy another doll again...

Randomly, I find Enchanted Dolls give a good romantic look; their pupils are deep and faraway, so it enhances the dreaminess, but you can still get intense pools of color that make 'em sharp. I also like Soom high-dome silicones for a romantic look, because those double dome corneas catch the light like nothing else, and make the gaze beautifully liquid.

Thanks very much! Hehe, I love his short little arms. I can't even recall how I discovered Lost Angel/ Mirodoll; I think I was just trawling the Company News and stumbled over their sculpt. He hits about 60-61 flat footed and standing, which I love, since it does make him look 5' 6" in scale to all my other Court dolls. Here's a shot of him on level with a bunch of other Iples and one modded Soom SG:

It's suprisingly poseable once it gets some sueding and the oval wrists have been altered, and his huge feet share size with the Iple SIDs. ( Incidentally, You know what they say about men with big feet? ^ ^;; It's true. Mirodoll bodies are VERY well endowed. Tight pants are right out.)

Hehe, anybody looks like 5'6" next to those EID giants. Keeping company with giants is one way to make oneself feel shorter, all right. 60cm boys who are actually 60 cm tall seem to be in the minority anymore; everyone's going taller & taller. My army of old SD13s looks positively stocky.

My friend has a first/second edition Iplehouse body (pre-YID), and *he* is short, like 59-60 cm. And so skinny. I forget how many versions of the Iple boy body there was before they created the YID; I think three; my tan Soo Ri was the third & last, I think, same super-skinny abstract body, but they added longer legs. So those boys were already 63cm tall before the YID label came around. And nowadays, if you want a short stocky guy from Iples, you have to go for a JID. ^^

Your men look good together; very cool medieval garb! I've seen Kevya around, too, and his scars. I haven't been brave enough yet to get started on any mods!

Yeah, the EID men kinda LOOM over the rest of my Court collection, hah. It is getting harder these days to find many male dolls in the 60 range. Most seem to be going 63 or taller- that is until Fairyland brought out their Feeple60, and I dunno if they really are 60cm. Have you thought about acquiring any of the nYID guys or bodies for your lovely man harem? They are definitely more beefy and do look pretty nice, but I think they are a bit taller than the OldYID.
(Flattered you like my Taregan! He is one of the resident Villains. I need to do some more shoots with Davan, but getting his wig right is holding me up. He needs some finer, smaller dreds.)

Yeah, Kevya is a stocky lil' guy compared to pretty much everybody. I looked at the Dollmore body for another project and it is TINY, innit? Reid makes it work, though, the sassy thing.
Thanks for noticing the clothes, I makes them myself since they are original character dolls and my vision of them in my head is too specific to be able to dress them from what's commercially available.
Po Kev has got a lot of scars. Some of the other dolls need a few more as well, but it'll have to wait, like so many other things, until I have a studio again. Le sigh. Eventually Kevya is gonna get a Sleeping Head made out of a Barron head I am hoarding, and possibly more mod work on the shape of his eyes.
