Thread: BlueFairy Shiny Fairy discussion part 1

  1. #321
Many tinys have neckholes that are smaller than the S-hooks, and the hook won't fit through. A hemostat is very helpful for removing the head on these dolls. All you have to do is:
    -lift the head very slightly
-with a hemostat, clamp the elastics underneath the head just above the neck (make sure it's secure)
-remove the S hook and the head, and the loops will stay at the top of the neck
This works well if you're working with the head only (like changing the eyes or something), the dolly sits around with a hemostat for a head for a bit, but they get over this trauma

If I'm working on the body and the head will be off for a while or I'm redressing the doll, I usually slip the S-hook back in the elastic loops at the top of the neck and unhook the hemostat (you then basically have a doll with a hook for a head). When I'm ready to put the head back on, I do the following:
    -pull up on the S-hook
-reclamp the hemostat on the elastics so that there's a loop (make sure it's secure)
    -take off the S-hook
-thread the elastic loops back through the head opening
-rehook the S-hook inside the head
    -release the clamp.

It takes a bit more work than the "turn and pull through the head" type of attachment, but it's an option for those of us who don't want to mod the head.

Just use pliers to make the S-hook smaller/narrower and that's solved forever without any modding.

Thanks for the tips Turbrow, clochette and Xaya! I think I might use the hemostat method from now on. Hmmm I still need practice with restringing this Shiny fairies, Benjamin always seems to have one leg floppier than the other leg.

Gr8pes, try to pull the legs, first the one which is floppy and then the other several times for both, that helps you to even the tension (if you have one long string for both legs).

    Here's Kiki and Noelle. ^-^

They're looking at me like that! Hoping I'll get into sewing clothes for them soon! (And Kiki hopes to have a nice pair of shoes too!).

Looking Off by Gr8pes, on Flickr

So I made a light box yesterday, and here are the results of the first photo shoot. Not bad, I don't know if its the material I used or my lights that give off the really sunset yellow glow effect. But it looks really nice!

*Yup, the leg pulling tricked worked. His legs are more even in tension now, thanks Xaya!

Thank you for all the great tips in this thread, I'm going to need them as I've never had a Yo-SD sized bjd before. ^^ I love your sweet dolls, Gr8pes and xaya! Thank you also to TURBOW for helping me with the eye size.

Today my SF May arrived from being stuck at customs for six days, the poor thing. She's the 1st version May. I've ordered some ED eyes for her and am still trying out different wigs on her to see what looks best. This is a Leeke wig and the dress was made by me:

It was getting dark already but I just had to take pics of her as soon as she got here! Even the postman's cheerful "90 EUR ($119), please!" greeting when I opened the door, couldn't dampen my spirits. I won her on Yahoo!Japan around Xmas already but as the winning bid was higher than I've expected, I waited a bit first before having her shipped (I also expected a high customs fee).

I love mohair wigs on bjd but most of my size 6-7 mohair wigs (like by Glib) are too small on both SF and Unoa and they share the same size. ;__; They're always just a tad too small, despite the stretch. I wonder if the mohair wigs by Crobidoll would fit? Has anyone tried them on SF? Thank you!

Thanks so much, Serenia, I'm glad you like my May and the dress! ^o^ I'm still a beginner at dolly sewing and was hoping the dress would fit her even though I didn't have May with me when I was making it. I made the bodice a bit wider just in case because it's better if the dress is a bit large (she can always wear a pullover or tee underneath) than simply too small.

    Thanks again!

CharmeC: Thank you very much! ^o^ I love tiny doll buckles, especially the heart-shaped ones, and want to include one on my next dress for Shiny Fairy! The best part is adding little details and deciding which fabrics and colors go together. My dolls have a cutesy style and since May is as cute as a button, so she fits right in, awww. She is so much sweeter in real life than I've imagined. Still looking for that perfect wig for her...

Gr8pes: Thank you very much for the kind compliments! It's exciting to receive a doll during wintertime because there's something magical about winter pics. My May needs some long sleeves though or she'll turn into a popsicle everytime we're outside, hehe. And I really only started my dolly sewing last summer, first with Licca and Blythe clothes which are also 1/6th scale like Yo-SD when it comes to height, so making the clothes a bit wider and bigger overall for Shiny Fairy hasn't been too difficult so far. Now that my May is here, I'll try to make something with actual sleeves. ^^ I'm so glad this thread exists because I don't see all that many Shiny Fairies on Flickr (though the ones that are up there are gorgeous).

Hmmm I know what you mean! Shiny fairies aren't that popular sadly, it could be because they're still relatively "new". Or people just don't like the sculpts (which is hard to believe, they're so cute!)? I guess because of that there's a sense of exclusiveness to them (which usually is only found with LE dolls non?)... Oh well at least we can rave about them here in this thread!

Please share your other creations! I'd love to see what you come up with next, my doll Ben has an odd style... so I don't really know how to dress him yet. He likes uniforms but also casual but classy street wear. How am I suppose to sew that!? Oh well I'll figure it out eventually.

With all the brushing, her wig is getting frizzy (as is my Noel's in front of her)...any hints on how to tame this type of fiber? I know you can use human hair products on mohair, but do they work on these as well?
! I see you have a Pipos PO11 in the picture too, does she belong to you? If so, would it be possible to get a nude comparison of the PO11 and the SF? :>

    Thanks in advance!

I just scooped up a Hana girl off the marketplace and AJKKHGSKJFGHAJDKGHWLKJGHAKJ SHE IS SO ADORABLE, OH MY GOSH. It was a complete accident, getting her, so she only has a shirt and a wig; no eyes, no other clothes, no shoes, haha. But she is so so so so cute~

Can I request some boy shiny fairy spam?? I was planning on a Hana boy at some point, so now I'll have to get someone else and do a little body switching...

I'll gladly spam for the fun of it, but Ben isn't ready to give up his body just yet!

    Awww, congrats, Peppermintsheep, on your new girl! I'd love to have a Hana one day, too! I hope you can get eyes and shoes and other things for her soon! I find it exciting buying stuff for a new doll, especially if she's in a size you didn't have before, so everything has to be new, from shoes, wigs, etc. My May's only been with me for a short time and I've already gone crazy and bought six pairs of shoes for her, and she has new eyes on pre-order. ^^;

Gr8pes, your Ben is sooo cute! I like how relaxed he is, he seems like an easy-going boy, hehe.

Here is my May (named Honey) in her new 'Atelier Momoni' outfit: summer dress with 3/4 sleeves, dark blue leggings and a black hairband, and the little necklaces and bracelet are by me. ATM's craftmanship is amazing, I love the neat sewing and the color combo. You can't see them but Honey's wearing pink shoes to match the bracelet. ^^

And this is an older pic from a few weeks ago that I haven't posted yet. Honey's posing with some of my other dolls in my sewing/doll room (sorry for the bad lighting, the pic was taken in the evening) and it's rather messy LOLZ:

Locksley your doll and pictures are so beautiful. I love Honey's current hairstyle, it's really chic! Plus the lighting in the second one makes it look super retro, I think it looks awesome! You have so many amazing doll sized props.

Thank you for the compliment on Benny, I guess he is a pretty laid back kinda character.

PS: Ben think's Honey looks really pretty.

Gr8pes:: Thanks so much! Her choice of hairstyle took me by surprise because I thought she'd have to go through several wigs before she found the right look for her, or that I'd have to buy new wigs for her to try on, but then I had her wear this boyish one (an extra wig that belongs to one of my Unoa faceplates), and it just "clicked" right away! ^o^ Aww, I'm glad your Ben likes Honey! Now she's blushing because a boy never paid her a compliment before. ^^

I made a new dress, socks, necklace and bracelets for her:

The dress has enough room for a t-shirt to fit underneath, so I'm going to make one in baby blue, to "complete" the outfit. I also loved making the little socks and I went a little crazy with the jewelry because it's so fun and cutesy and Honey showed great interest in it. She loves accessories! ^^ Now she'll want new jewelry all the time!

    Here's an outdoors pic:

Hope you like! I want to make socks in all sorts of colors! *loves the wee socks*

Locksley: Oh it's no problem at all! Hehe I actually saw a really cute pink wavy short boy wig somewhere... I was planning on getting that wig just to see how it looked on Ben. I'm a weirdo and like to dress my boys in boys clothing that are pink sometimes, don't ask me why.. I don't think they (well he) appreciates it.

I'm really loving all your clothes and accessories you make for Honey, it all looks so professional looking and cute! I've got a few things planned for Ben that I have to make.. but I've been procrastinating and he's giving me the "look". Oh boy...

Looks like Connie is going to be a part of Bluefairy's new special/limited editions. They're calling it Spring Garden and it will be released (only?) via MinoruWorld.

    She looks adorable!
