Thread: Email notifications for AOL users

    Email notifications for AOL users

DoA received a spam complaint from AOL because a user was flagging all of her PM notification emails as spam.

    Two things about this...

    1) If you don't want to receive email notifications from the forum for Subscriptions or PMs, you may edit your settings in your UserCP under Edit Options.

    2) Because of this, AOL may block emails from DoA for a little while. Please make sure that forums@denofangels.com is on your whitelist.

We are aware of the username of the person who was doing this because it comes across in the body of the reported email. If we find that you are reporting notification emails that you elect to receive as spam, you may lose PM or subscription privileges indefinitely.

This account does not accept PMs. Please ask the moderators if you need help.

    Bumping this.

Reporting forum emails as spam damages our IP's reputation, which means that some mail services may block emails from DoA. If you do not wish to receive notifications, please disable them in your UserCP. If you can't figure out how to do this, please PM an active moderator.

Please keep in mind that you aren't hurting the moderators by doing this, you are potentially inconveniencing other members who use the same ISP. That is simply not cool.

If you report these as spam (as someone else did today) you will get, at minimum, a one-day suspension. If you continue to do it, your suspension will be lengthened.

    Thanks for understanding!

I am happy to help you, but please use the Ask the Mods subforum!

Bumping this up because we've had a rash of people doing this. We will suspend you for a few days if you do this because it negatively impacts our forum!

Greetings, as an aol user I am really worried about this. I have gone over the aol settings with some of the people who were banned tonight and no DOA messages were found in their spam folders, no DOA messages had been put into spam by them, and DOA is on their white list, so I am not sure what is happening, but if you got a rash of these tonight is it possible that some DOA server changes might be actually be triggering this somehow, and not actually DOA members themselves?

I sure hope whatever it is gets fixed because I am really concerned it might happen to any of us aol users.
    Many Thanks and Fingers Crossed!

EDIT - Just found this while doing a keyword search on "aol false spam IP alerts. This info is a bit beyond me and geared more to aol users, but maybe these links may help your server admin to be able to have aol check why this might be happening to DOA in spates like this - here is a quote with a link, to better links
    (From Aol Postmaster)
"We are aware that there will be false positives, and have taken that fact into account, so there is no reason to assume your IP will be blocked for a handful of complaints. However, if you are seeing delivery issues on your whitelisted IP, you should start by taking some action to reduce your spam complaints, and by contacting us to let us know what kind of mail your IP sends."

    Hope this Helps

One final thought - If the DOA accounts in question all had AOL, did they have anything else in common, like having several threads on instant notification or something? I cant help feeling there must be some sort of glitch going on for this to keep happening in spates like this. Sooooo hoping it gets resolved well for everyone!

Oh great I have had my AOL account for years and have never had a problem with getting important messages from DoA, I hope this does not effect me either. Will check my settings. I did get a Happy Birthday message from DoA earlier this month, thanks for sending it every year like clock work. Keep up the wonderful job!

I hope this helps, I have a friend who is an Admin on a very large Vbulletin board and when I inquired about this he linked me to this post:

How to keep your board from being blacklisted as a spammer
It's from the actual Vbulletin forums, so I hope it helps a little in trying to sort this out.
