If it's marked as before shipping, then they've accepted your order. I do the same thing and just pay their paypal and don't wait for an invoice. I'm yet to have any issues with it.

Hi, im currently saving to purchase my first doll and i was wondering if any of you own a Melissa Baul? Whats good, whats bad? Would clothes be easy to find for her? How do the Dollmore dolls compare to the Dolfie Dreams? Would it be a good starter doll perhaps?

Also do you need to get the sanding service when ordering? I assume this means that they take care of any mold line issues before shipping so you dont have to worry about it.

    Thanks for any advice!

Dont worry^^ I never wait for an invoice. I`m to impatient for that I always go to my Paypal account and send the money to they`re address instead of waiting to get e-mail from Dollmore.

If you don't mind seam lines then you could save yourself the money and not get the sanding service. The seam lines on my Noal Eve are not that big, but they are there. Each time I buy a doll from Dollmore, I think about getting the sanding service as well, but then I just tell myself to keep the money and sand the lines myself.
If you don't want seam lines and don't want to sand them yourself, getting the sanding service is a good idea. It's not that expensive for the amount of work.

I don't know how Melissa Baul compares to Dolfie Dreams, but Dollmore sells a lot of clothes in her size and she'll fit in most SD stuff if you keep in mind that she has long legs. Not all SD clothes may be a perfect fit, though.
She isn't a very complicated doll, so she'll be fine as a first doll. She's a big doll, though. Some people are intimidated by that and some like doll that aren't tiny, but sturdy looking.
Dollmore does ship a lot of dolls with very loose elastic to keep the dolls from breaking during shipping. My Narsha's elastic was so loose her legs dangled from the joint sockets.
Get a doll stringer and some wire (In case the stringer can't get through some parts) to help you restring the doll, read up on some restringing tutorials and you'll be fine. Dollmore dolls aren't that hard to restring.

I think I will probably get the sanding service then because i dont want to screw up on my first one. I dont have a problem with size or the fact that not everything will fit. I plan on trying my hand at making clothes in the near future.

By the way, what is a 'complicated' doll? Im curious.

Some dolls are more complicated to pose (e.g. my Angell Studio needs to have her joints locked into place, whereas my Notdoll is much easier and a freer poser). Some are more complicated to re-string (e.g. Domuya Flexis). Some are more complicated because finding clothing for them is difficult (e.g. some of the bigger boys like Soom Mecha Angels, EID women and dolls with 'glamor' busts who have curvier shapes, etc).

Yeah, ive read about the issues with some of better endowed dolls out there being a little picky with what they wear. I was trying to stick to something a little simpler for the time being because of this fact. I guess the best way to find what clothing will fit is through trial and error.(or maybe just asking nicely, although ive not seen anyone so far that owns a melissa baul)

After being involved in this hobby for the past seven years, I would say that your best bet is to actually order a few pieces of clothing from the company you're ordering your doll from (if they have clothing available for purchase) because they make clothing specific to the dolls they offer. Then, when the doll gets home, take some good measurements, and you can compare these measurements to other dolls (and companies that offer clothing for specific sizes). If you find there is similarity in measurements, you'll have a pretty good chance of a good fit with the clothes.

GothicKDM was doing a faceup on a Melissa Baul and Dysenteria on Flickr has photos of her own Melissa: http://www.flickr.com/photos/dysenteria/

Masala_chai_tea already covered most of it, but dolls that have for example 35 parts, no markings in their limbs to distinguish between left and right, have the elastic strung through the hands and feet so you will have to cut the elastic if you want to restring them, need tight stringing and sueding before they stand, stain easily, have weird clothes sizes, very large or small feet (difficult to find shoes for), or need some modding before they are ready for play.

My Noal Eve came with loose elastic, but she could still pose elegantly right from the box. Restringing her was pretty easy, so I think that it will be the same for a Model doll.

That sounds like it could be kind of rough. Hopefully I can pick up on most of this as I go.

One more question... what exactly is sueding? Is that when you put filler around the leg joints for better hold during posing?

More or less that. It gives the joints a little bit more grip so the doll holds poses better.

The Customizing Thread Index give a lot of useful links to restringing en sueding threads, but here are the sueding links:

Wanted to share a curious bit of information: I have a Ha-Yarn Cho, whose small head makes all the recommended wigs too big. I tried Monique Gold #6-7, and it fits like a glove. Literally. It's a hassle to put on, because it's so tight, but once it's on - the realism and fit is amazing. Hope it's helpful.

Edit: BTW, I'm crazy in love with the Dollmore sculpt and resin quality. This is my first DM doll, and I can't say enough good things about it. So, there, I've drank the Kool-aid.

Thank you so much! I have her too, love her, but not so easy to find wigs that fit, with her small, elegant head. I'll try that size next time!

Hi - I need fast help! I need the neck measurement for Dollmore Model Female Body. I have a Bella Auden on the way and a Bonnie Hopez head that needs a body, I am wondering if the Bonnie/Female Model head will fit a Soom Super Gem Body, or if I have to stick with DM Model Bodies. For this doll, resin match will not be much of an issue. I would like to hybrid with a Soom MD, but cannot find any info or pics. If anyone has any info please post or PM me asap! Thanks in advance : )

It's about 8.5-9 cm circumference. I have a model doll girl with both normal and glamor bust

It's nice to see that Dollmore uses the not often seen Noal, Fine, and Ohoo for their Youth Dollmore Eve - Lovely Lingerie limited edition. I think I found some inspiration for my Noal's face-up. ^_^
