Volks SDCute Discussion Thread "Super Dollfie Cute"

So I tried some Volks 18mm glass eyes in my Renee (and discovered that she doesn't have eye wells!):

The look is very googly-eyed and exaggerated in my opinion but I do like it. It suits her character very well (she's an alien posing as a human...and just barely passing ). Most Renees I've seen have 16mm eyes and they look great, but I think I'll be ordering sNarfie some 18mm flatbacks in some shade of blue (I tried out my Miko's blue silvers in her an nearly died of cute). I don't think I'll get lucky enough to find another pair of silvers any time soon. XD

I also need to change sNarfie's outfit. The whole Swiss Miss get up gets the song "Edelweiss" stuck in my head...it's only cute the first 10 times!

I like that look on her! And she honestly doesn't look very googly to me. That color (Smoke Olive?) is flattering on her too, even if it's not the grail-color you have in mind. Pity that Miko can't time-share those Silver blues with her. Ack, the hoops you gotta jump through to score another pair of those.

"Edelweiss", pfffft!! Owww. >_< You have my sympathies! If you ever get that stuck in your head on infinite loop, the only way out is a bullet. Or, a nice Cannibal Corpse playlist (or some other suitably head-cleaning music that will scrape all residual melodies out of your skull xD).

Maybe if you got Snarfie up in some black skinny jeans & a cropped leather jacket, you could more happily get stuck on "I Love Rock & Roll" or "Love is a Battlefield" instead. ^^

I've had it stuck in my head for 3 days and counting! T_T I bet sNarnie thinks it's hysterical! It must be one of her extraterrestrial powers (if Renees ever HAD any powers of any kind I can guarantee they will be 100% useless XD).

That's a hell of a superpower-- "I can make you sing 'Edelweiss' for three days!! " Not much good in a knife fight, but it'd eventually drive your enemies to madness or perdition.

How awful for you! ;; I'm glad you're on the internet where I can't hear you humming it, otherwise it could be contagious. And I'm glad I don't own a dirndl.

My current task...finding the right look for El (Ryu). I'll worry about sNarfie's eyes later.

Well I think Ryus are just rebellious by nature! XD I wanted El to be a sweet gentleman but oh nooooo...he insists on being a rock star! I was thinking of blond hair and dark eyes for him but I think the gray hair and green eyes are growing on me.

El's eyes are actually ED milky 42+27 (custom). I've tried them out in several dolls but they seem to suit El best. He's such a defiant little guy but I don't think I'd love him so much if he wasn't. XD

Julie, Aya IS strong! She must be strung really well! Very cute picture!

Adding to the Kaede spam, Akira keeps switching genders on me. Right now she wants to be a girl. I love her as either a boy or a girl, although it gets a little tiring switching so often. Maybe her character should be like Ranma! >_< <3

Is that one of the recent Volks steampunk getups? - I only passed up that outfit reluctantly. ;;^^ It looks stunning on him - check out that silhouette he's got with that short jacket & tight leather pants & heavy hip-belt. Quel dreamy! Lorelai must be susceptible to guys in cropped jackets, too... she looks pretty besotted there.

Ziek was using black marbles for eyes when I got him. But I just knew these eyes were perfect for him.

It's a double textured yarn. (It's the same type I used to make the black wig for my Chrom) It makes awesome dreads.

Hello everyone. I have a few questions concerning Volks SDC dolls and I hope this is the correct thread for my questions. I recently received a Volks Kurt and think he's just the coolest. Now I would like to get a girl to go along with him. I know that Volks does not offer SDC basic dolls or SDC dolls in the FCS. Of the dolls that have been released, Gretel is one of my favorites, but I assume it will be hard to locate her. So my question is does anyone know how often Volks releases SDC dolls? Are the releases just random? Hansel and Gretel was released in 2011 and from the research I have done, they were the last SDC dolls.

Naah, new SDCs don't seem to come along too often! It's always a big deal to see a new one. ;; If you're very patient, you can keep waiting for Dolpa after Dolpa until they put out a new one that you happen to like... or, if you are also patient, you could put up a WTB (in sig + in MP) and scour the secondhand market for that Gretel.

If you're partial to Gretel in particular, I'd say go hit the secondhand market first! - SDCs are rare, but they are out there. After all, you found a Kurt, right? And he's even older, just as rare. So there's no reason a Gretel might not be waiting somewhere out there with your name on her.

BTW congratulations on that Kurt! He is definitely extremely cool. I've liked every single Kurt I've ever met.

Hi JennyNemesis and thanks for your help. You said exactly what I was thinking...Volks just doesn't do that many SDC dolls. I am patient, so I guess I will put a WTB out there and cross my fingers that 2013 will bring us a new SDC girl. My Kurt is just the coolest. I remember liking him when he came out, but had stopped collecting dolls then, so I forgot about him. When I saw him in the marketplace recently, I couldn't believe my luck. I need to get some pictures of him. I have been out of the doll scene since last August and just now am starting to play around with my dolls again.

Oh cool, you get to rediscover your dolls again - it's almost like having new ones. I get that same feeling whenever I find money in the pockets of my laundry. ^^

I bet you end up looking half as far for your Gretel as you expect, too... it's uncanny, but the Secondhand Volks Faeries work in just as mysterious ways as the new ones do. I can't count how many times I've thought "oh man, I'll never get my hands on X doll" only to have it fall into my lap a month later...

CindyG, if you're after a Gretel I've seen at least three crop up on Mandarake throughout the past six months or so - I specifically remember her because I'm also a fan of the sculpt and hope to own one some day! I'm a Mandarake fiend though, if you get into the habit of checking regularly you can get really reasonably priced fullsets in immaculate condition. I found two of my Volks there.
