It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Feedback for timchener

Sep 7, 2006

    1. I'm afraid I too will have to leave a less than positive review for timchener.

Originally I commissioned timchener to do a faceup for my NS CP Harang. He was completely clean and blank, no removal needed. I referenced images of dolls she'd already painted knowing how hard artistic interpretation can be and thought that if it was something she'd already done it would be loads easier. Luckily two dolls she'd already done had exactly what I wanted. I referenced juubei's Juri 06's eye-shading and Sash's Juri 06's eyebrows for eyebrow shape and thickness. I'd requested that the eyebrows be done in the color yellow-brown, referencing #144 on this color chart.

After some brief confusion about payment (I'd assumed payment would be sent after I'd seen the finished product as that's how I'd done it in the past, but timchener wanted payment in advance. This wasn't a problem, I just hadn't been aware.), she began to work on my head. A couple of weeks later, I get the first image of what she called the finished product:

Needless to say, I was a little shocked. The eyes and eyebrows weren't even close to what I'd requested, and I sent her some feedback asking her to lighten the eyeshadow a lot. She sent me another image that didn't seem much lighter at all to me, and I told her that it needed to be lighter still. I also mentioned the eyebrows needed to be redone. She then informed me that she'd already sealed them, and I would need to pay another $15 for "changing my mind." Again I was a little confused and told her that I hadn't changed my mind and was a little confused as to why I needed to pay another $15 to complete my commission. I again referenced the two images above, which I had sent in my original commission request, pointing out that they were what I'd asked for.

She sent me a very lovely PM not too long after apologizing profusely, stating that she'd gotten the images I'd sent mixed up with some other Juri heads she'd done. Not a problem! Mixups happen, and frankly I was relieved to find a reason for the obvious mistranslation inbetween what I'd requested and what I'd received. So I go back to anxiously awaiting my doll, fully confident that I'll be given at least a close proximity to my request this time around. Here's the image she sends me:

Obviously the eyeshadow still isn't right, nor is the eyebrow color. I decided though that I actually prefer this eyebrow color over my original choice and ask her to keep it. At this point I can feel that she's just ready to get rid of me as a customer and my impression was she was doing the bare minimum of my requests. I was very hesitant to ask her to correct the eyeshadow again, and reasoned that it was light enough that I may be able to blend the blue in there and adjust the green myself so that it would appear as my requested image. I assumed the eyebrows just appeared off because of the angle of the photo, knowing that timchener was a talented artist and had done many faceups before. I knew she'd never send a doll out with eyebrows as lopsided as they appeared to be here. I ask her to send the doll to me, and she shipped it out this last Saturday.

I got him very quickly; I had a notice, and I went to pick him up yesterday from the post office. Here's what he looked like.

As you can see, the eyebrows are two completely different shapes. I'm a little confused about how she could've sent it out like that and not noticed how off they were. My thought is that she saw it and just didn't care; she'd already had to redo them several times and just wanted to be rid of him. Which is a shame since I think the rest of him is gorgeous. Though it's also worth noting that there was some dark, dust-like grit in the crevices of his ear and some of the freckles on his nose smudged when I ran my finger over them. Both were easily corrected by me, however.

Fortunately, the wig I've chosen covers up one of the eyebrows so you can't even tell. I have some friends that are going to attempt to correct the eyeshadow and eyebrows for me so hopefully I won't twitch every time I see them. Timchener is a very talented artist, which makes it all the more a shame that she pays so little attention to details such as these. I'm sure that as soon as she manages to correct that she'll be a wonderful faceup artist, but I'm afraid that in the meantime I cannot reccomend her for commission work.

    2. Just for the record and for any future possible commissioners, here is our entire correspondance, including all of the images shown to her for her approval -- which met 100%. (Any other displeasure she had with the faceup, she refused to let me know about.) Many photos were taken from all angles, as shown in the PMs. (The images are very large and may take a long time to load on 56k modems.)

I'm honestly shocked by the feedback, as I had a very lovely experience working with Zully Quirke.

(Also, it should be noted that when the head arrived, it was filthy. There was a slimey-like layer of grime all around the head (almost like nicotine), and I had to clean it with non-acetone remover.)

After this, a few more than amicable PMs were sent, and the head was shipped off.

Any responses and comments regarding this issue should be taken up with me via PM, or you can email me directly at [email protected].

    3. Thank you for your response and your PM as well, though I feel obligated to add my initial commission comment which you seem to have neglected to post, in which I clearly state what I had originally commissioned.

I readily admit that perhaps I should have been more forthright with you with how disappointed I was, but frankly towards the end I'd just gotten anxious to get my boy back. I would also like you to address the matter of the eyebrows, as you do not seem to have done so yet. Did you notice how crooked they were when you sent them out? If so, why did you send them? They seem fairly obvious to me.

I sugarcoated because that's essentially what DoA is. Sugarcoat. You get more flies with honey. I assumed that the nicer I was and the more positive feedback I gave you, the better you would do or the harder you would work to meet my examples. Clearly, I was incorrect.

So I could have been more honest about how I really felt about it in PM's. But you could have paid more attention as well. The fact remains that the commission's eyes and eyebrows turned out nothing like I'd originally requested.

I've got nothing against you, despite your passive aggressive comment in my own feedback thread. I still think you're a good artist, and I'm willing to admit that you have done several good faceups. But you did not do well on mine. I was prepared to just accept that you weren't able to duplicate your own work insofar as the eyeshadow went, but the eyebrows are horribly off. I really don't believe that you could have done that and not noticed unless you just weren't paying attention.

And I do believe this belongs in your feedback thread rather than in a PM. As you have slanted the information to make me seem unreasonable, I feel obligated to defend myself. I know I'm not the only one who has had problems, and anyone commissioning you needs to be aware of potential problems.

Here is the screencap of my original commission request.
